Thursday Thoughts

“Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love.
Because of your great mercy, wipe away my sins”
Psalm 51:1

This week we begin the season of Lent, a special time to focus our attention on the kind of life that Jesus calls us to lead… a life of mercy, forgiveness and compassion. Pope Francis tells us this:

“The most important thing is to walk together by working together, by helping one another, by asking forgiveness, by acknowledging one’s mistakes and asking forgiveness, and also by accepting the apologies of others by forgiving… how important this is!”

Very often, we hear our students trying to “justify” their bad behavior because of an offense that was aimed at them weeks, months and sometimes years before. Holding a grudge only leads to continued resentment and eventual revenge that not only destroys our human relationships, but our relationship with God as well.

During this Lenten season, we continue to instruct, model and guide our students toward Jesus and his ultimate example of mercy and love… death on the cross for our sins. It’s the ONLY way to live.

Registration

St. Benedict Catholic School registration for the 2017-2018 school year is underway for current families. We have received many registration forms, scholarship/financial aid applications, and $100 registration fees PLEASE register early to reserve your child’s place as classes fill up quickly. This current year we had waiting lists in 5 of our grades! This is why we are getting the packets out to you first prior to open registration. Open registration begins with Open House on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

If you need applications for Little Flower or St. Benedict scholarships, please call or stop in to the school or parish business office. Information regarding Northwest Ohio and Ed Choice scholarships was included in the registration packet. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

Ed- Choice Expansion Scholarship – May be available to students entering kindergarten, first, second, third or fourth grades who do not meet criteria for the traditional Ed Choice scholarship, but have qualifying financial need. Forms are available at the school office or online at www.education.ohio.gov/edchoice.

Open House

Please join us this Sunday, March 5, 2017 between 11:30 and 1:30 for our annual Open House. Not only will our current families be able to visit classrooms and see what students have accomplished, but it is also an opportunity to welcome new families looking for the choice school for their children. Our best public relations come from our own parents and students who know about the great things at St. Benedict Catholic School. Please help us welcome these potential families to our school. There will be student presentations and displays throughout the building. Be sure to visit our “mad scientists” on the second floor.

Hot Lunch

Due to the parish Fish Frys, there will be no hot lunch served on March 9th and 23rd. Students who have purchased lunches for these days will be credited for lunches in April. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Help Wanted

We are blessed to have a PTO and volunteers who give their time each week to provide hot lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We could use some more help especially on Thursdays. If you could give even one or two days a month it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Cheryl Bebee (flowerpower915@yahoo.com) for more information or if you can help.

The Price is Right

Dinner tickets for the adult only Spring Event are now on sale for $50 per person at the Little Flower business office. Remember, sell 2 books of raffle tickets to receive $10 off one dinner ticket, sell 3 books for $20 off and so on. No limit on free tickets and discounts.

Many thanks to all who have graciously contributed thus far, especially the committee who has tirelessly met throughout the year! We appreciate your support and would not be able to do this without you!
