“We appreciate what you’ve done in every way and in every place, And we want to thank you very much. Acts 24:3
From my youth, I remember sayings such as “Time flies when you’re having fun,” and “Where does the time go?” My mother always told me that the older you get, the faster the time goes by. As we approach the end of the school year, these words of wisdom seem all too real. This school year has indeed gone very quickly.
Even so, this year has been one of accomplishment and growth for students and faculty alike. Many opportunities have been made possible with new technology, not replacing teachers, but complimenting classroom instruction. Emphasis has been placed on the Works of Mercy and students are becoming more aware of the needs of others. Both spiritually and academically, we have watched our students bloom.
For one of our teachers, not only has this year passed quickly but the last 24 years as well. Throughout these years, Mrs. Laurie Baker has faithfully served as the preschool teacher. She has guided and nurtured countless little ones, helping them prepare to be successful students. Now, Mrs. Baker will begin her new career sharing her love being full time “Nonna” to her own grandchildren.
As we prepare to wish Mrs. Baker well, we also look forward to welcoming our new Preschool teacher. Fortunately, there will be little adjustment needed… just a move next door. It is my pleasure to announce that Mrs. Jenna Vendemo, our current fulltime Kindergarten Aide will be the next teacher/director at St. Benedict Catholic School. Mrs. Vendemo is certified as an early childhood instructor and brings many years of experience with her to the classroom. Her dedication to St. Benedict Catholic School is appreciated and we look forward to her new role in the school family.
Classes for the 2017-2018 school year are quickly filling. We currently have a waiting list for 1st grade and other grades are close to being full. PLEASE return your registration packet and the $100 registration fee by the last day of school, Friday, May 26 to ensure your student continues to receive the quality education and faith formation that St. Benedict Catholic School provides.
All registered families will be receiving the Tuition/Scholarship/Financial Aid Award forms soon.
Tomorrow, Friday May 19 is Field Day and Cook-out.
Pre/K – 4 Field Day Activities 9:00 – 11:00 Lunch 11:00 – 11:30
Gr. 5 – 8 Field Day Activities 12:00 – 2:00 Lunch 11:30 – 12:00
Thanks to Miss Rennert and PTO for planning this fun event and to all the parent volunteers making it possible. It will be a busy day! Due to an unforeseen funeral, parking will be limited. Parent volunteers for both Field Day and PTO Cook-Out should park either at the far end of the Dorr St. lot adjacent to the playground or the back side of the Olimphia lot closest to the field. PLEASE DO NOT PARK OUTSIDE OF THE TOWER ENTRANCE OR NEXT TO THE CHURCH.
Students may wear shorts (if it is warm enough) or sweatpants and spirit wear shirts/sweatshirts and of course, tennis shoes for Field Day! FYI – Weather is supposed to be cooler on Friday.
Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2017. While it is always difficult to say goodbye, we are proud of the young Christian leaders they have become and look forward to hearing about all the accomplishments they will achieve in the future. ROBERT BEEBE
