When Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had been ill for a long time, he said to him. “Do you want to be well?” John 5:6 As we continue to experience the holy season of Lent, we remind ourselves and our students what it really means to be true disciples of Christ. It is not always easy because each day we are faced with many temptations from the evil one. Sometimes we say we are followers of Jesus but our actions do not exhibit this. Last Tuesday, Fr. Brown reminded us in his homily that just like the man in the Gospel, we may not want to be well. Sometimes we want to hold on to our sins instead of making a change and letting them go. “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 Three 5th, 6th and 7th graders were surprised this week following the school mass on Tuesday. The middle school students wrote essays during Catholic Schools Week addressing what their Catholic education at St. Benedict School means to them. Their responses were amazing!!! What they didn’t know is that the essays were used to determine a student from each grade to receive a $500 scholarship from the Endowment Committee to be used toward their 2018-2019 St. Benedict tuition. We as Catholic educators have long understood the sacrifices that parents and families make to ensure their children receive a Catholic education.
